Dr. Brown specializes in PTSD and anxiety disorders in her practice and employs EMDR Therapy frequently to treat these issues. EMDR therapy is a mind/body therapy that reprocesses trauma in a new, less distressing way using eye movements, tapping, or other dual-attention stimuli. It is now the recommended treatment for PTSD by the American Medical Association and the doctor has had great success with this technique. It is typically faster than talk therapy and addresses cognitive, somatic and emotional consequences of trauma. This technique is also used to create an internal sense of security for clients with attachment or relational issues.
Dr. Brown also conducts individual and couples’s sessions using traditional talk therapy and has many tools at her disposal, including art therapy, cognitive restructuring, mind/body imagery, breathing & relaxation techniques, and somatic re-experiencing to name a few. She is also a strong group therapist, and generally runs women’s groups in her practice with a special focus and time-limit (e.g. Upcoming Prosperity Group for 8 weeks). She has a strong foundation in attachment theory (relational issues), which is incorporated in her work, as well as the client’s previous therapy experience, life stage, history and temperament so that the client receives the best treatment for their particular situation.
