Trauma & PTSD
Trauma is the emotional and physical response to an event(s) that are overwhelming, frightening and deeply distressing. These experiences may involve a threat to your safety or sense of self and range from a single event to a series of events. It can greatly impact your nervous system and sense of safety in the world.
The 4 Symptoms of PTSD include:
- Re-experiencing the trauma (dreams, flashbacks)
- Increased arousal of the nervous system (on edge)
- Avoidance of anything related to the trauma
- Mood disturbance (depression/anxiety)
Other symptoms include:
- Trouble sleeping
- Digestive issues, Chronic pain
- Depression
- Feelings of dread
- Anger or irritability
- Increased anxiety
Unfortunately, trauma generally doesn't resolve on its own. But effective trauma treatment, including EMDR, somatic work, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) can yield great results.
