Trauma & PTSD
Trauma is the emotional and physical response to an event(s) that are overwhelming, frightening and deeply distressing. These experiences may involve a threat to one's safety or sense of self and range from a single event to a series of events. It greatly impacts one's nervous system, the ability to cope and sense of safety in the world.
The 4 Symptoms of PTSD include:
- Re-experiencing the trauma (dreams, flashbacks)
- Increased arousal of the nervous system (on edge)
- Avoidance of anything related to the trauma
- Mood disturbance
Other symptoms are:
- Trouble Sleeping
- Digestive Issues/Headache/Backache
- Depression
- Feelings of Dread
- Anger or irritability
- Increased anxiety
Unfortunately, trauma generally doesn't resolve on its own. But effective trauma treatment, including EMDR, somatic work, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) can yield great results.
