Trauma & PTSD

Trauma is the emotional and physical response to an event(s) that are overwhelming, frightening and deeply distressing. These experiences may involve a threat to one's safety or sense of self and range from a single event to a series of events.  It greatly impacts one's nervous system, the ability to cope and sense of safety in the world.

The 4 Symptoms of PTSD include:

  • Re-experiencing the trauma (dreams, flashbacks)
  • Increased arousal of the nervous system (on edge)
  • Avoidance of anything related to the trauma
  • Mood disturbance

Other symptoms are:

  • Trouble Sleeping
  • Digestive Issues/Headache/Backache
  • Depression
  • Feelings of Dread
  • Anger or irritability
  • Increased anxiety

Unfortunately, trauma generally doesn't resolve on its own.  But effective trauma treatment, including EMDR, somatic work, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) can yield great results.
